One of summer’s best kept secrets was the album from Brazilian actor/singer Seu Jorge (“City of God” and “The Life Aquatic”) and his band Almaz. Their self -tiled debut consists of 12 well done covers of some of musics most classic songs with Seu’s incredibly rich baritone being the immediate standout.
The quartet have just released a short film higlighting three of their covers; Roy Ayers’ “Everybody Loves The Sunshine,” Martinho da Vila and João de Aquino’s “Cirandar” and Kraftwerk’s “The Model”. Beautifully directed by Kahlil Joseph (who also did Aloe Blacc’s “I Need a Dollar) The Model – Chapter One captures that same mystique and eclecticness that made the album so likable from the jump. It is a great introduction if you are unfamiliar with the band. Look for the next chapter to drop later this year via IFC.com.
