Philly singer-songwriter and producer Yellow Shoots brings the pain on his new single, “Stormy Weather.” The song’s title is a loaded one, of course: it’s damn near impossible not to think of Lena Horne or Billie Holiday belting the blues-drenched Harold Arlen standard of the same name.
Yellow Shoots aims for the same torch song territory on his own “Stormy Weather”: the loneliness and loss—prompted by a lover’s desertion—that rolls in quick as thunder and drenches you in sadness. Clocking in at just under three minutes, the track is a distilled quick hit heavy with mood; a full-on emo cloudburst.
