MUSIC: THEESatisfaction – EarthEE

What’s great about TheeSatisfaction is that while they harken towards a very afrocentric past, they are VERY future leanings. They draw from inspirations like Alice Coltrane to Sun-Ra but push it forward into experimental leanings that artists in the past seemed afraid to because they were too busy making sure their medallions properly matched their Made in China kente cloth t-shirts. They use the past as a means to an end, and while they show reverence to the artists (both musical and non) that shaped their aesthetic, they seem not to be bound by it. The result is something that will inspire and probably inspire more then a few youngsters to create art of their own. Their new album is streaming over at NPR, and it’s great.
