The superb music project SHAOLIN JAZZ hsa long studied the lines between Jazz and Hip-hop and the’ve started to turn their gaze at the diaspora and beyond. Fresh from a music exchange initiative in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia the group returns to the Washington DC area to show what they’ve been working on. For one night only this Saturday, June 4th, they will be performing the sounds of Ethio-Jazz and Ethiopian hip-hop at DC’s Tropicalia. The live show is part of a part of SHAOLIN JAZZ’s Ethiopia programming with a goal to bridge the gap between Ethiopia to the diaspora on this side of the world with panel discussions, interviews and of course live performances.
You can buy tickets here, and in the mean time check out a re-worked version of Raekwon and Tash’s “Rap Life” that they did in honor of Clarence Reid, aka Blowfly.
