Hip-Hop in the late 70’s took the definition of a Disc Jockey and, similar to the Bronx B-Boys dancing on linoleum, spun it on its head. There are many proclaimed Grandmasters but there is only one “Master Of Records”, Afrika Bambaataa. This Fall, DJ / Producers Shadow and Cut Chemist are on the road with the Renegades Of Rhythm tour in tribute of the Planet Rocker Bambaataa and his legendary use of rare vinyl from around the world to create those Funk sets of lore in New York during the 80s. The tour kicked off Sept. 4th with sold out shows in NYC.
Shadow and Cut emerged in the mid 90’s as formidable record masters and turntablists known for their innovation in live mixing and tricks. Cut and DJ Numark have blown minds for many years on the road with throw back rap group and festival staples, Jurassic 5, who’s shows are as notable for the DJs and their sets as they are for the rappers themselves. Shadow is credited for launching the instrumental Hip-Hop genre boom of the late 90’s/early aughts, which has evolved into scenes such as the Low End Theory parties around the world which originated in California, Shadow’s home state.
The Renegades tour features the duo rocking records from Bam’s private stash as they do the types of innovative routines that have kept them famous for almost 20 years. A month into the road trip, they will be heading west starting with San Diego October 1st then heading to LA on the 3rd, San Francisco on the 4th covering the Pacific Coast and Canada through Thanks Giving.
