FOOD: In-N-Out vs Shake Shack

[In-N-Out Double Double]

Shake Shack has always been one of my favorite things about living in New York but now that I’m in LA visiting my sister for a few days, all I can think about is In-N-Out.  Shake Shack who now?

So I thought it would be fun, now that In-N-Out is fresh in my mind, to do a comparison between the two and finally decide which I prefer for real.

1. The Meat

One of my favorite things about Shake Shack is the meat itself.  It’s full of flavor and has a taste that is uniquely its own.  In-N-Out on the other hand is a bit more substantial.

Winner: Shake Shack.  I love that flavor!

2. The Fries

There is no question about it–the Shake Shack crinkle cut fries are THE BEST.  But when some locations, cough, Upper East and West, cough, have these different, regular fries, I don’t even want them.  I don’t know what happened to crinkle cut across the board, but Madison Square Park never lets me down.  In-N-Out has decent fries, but they aren’t anything to really write home about.  If you like them animal style, that’s definitely different, but on a whole, they are kind of generic.  Although they deserve points for hand cutting them.

Winner: Shake Shack crinkle cut

3. The Sauce

The sauce on a burger can certainly be a game changer.  While Shake Shack has a delicious “secret” sauce, I just love the animal style sauce of In-N-Out.  Even though in all serious they are probably the same.

Winner: In-N-Out.  Animal style!!!

4. The Shake

This is a tough call.  On the one hand, Shake Shack has lots of choices and different custards (hence their name).  But In-N-Out has the Neapolitan option which is chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry combined.  Definitely a go-to if you can’t make up your mind!  I love a black and white shake from Shake Shack but for thickness and creaminess, I’m going with In-N-Out on this one.

Winner: In-N-Out

5. Price

No question about it, In-N-Out is the best value for your money.  Fries are $1.60!  Can’t beat it.

Winner: In-N-Out

I really didn’t think that In-N-Out would be the winner here!  But there you have it.  The value, sauce, and shakes just can’t be beat.  So what do you think?  Do you agree??
