FOOD: DC’s Lunchbox

I found myself in Friendship Heights and secretly wished I packed a picnic basket so I could enjoy the awesome weather we were having. Although my culinary skills were useless at this point, I found a better option inside of Chevy Chase Pavilion. Open for a few months, I decided to grab a takeout meal at Top Chef alum, Bryan Lunchbox.  I scoured through the menu composed of a variety of gourmet sandwiches quickly settled on the fried chicken banh mi.

On top of a buttery brioche bun was a juicy piece of fried chicken, pickled veggies, and liver mousse. Although I wish the chicken’s skin was a bit crunchier to counter the buttery soft bun and pate and it was served on a baguette, the sandwich had decent flavor. And it came in this nifty Lunchbox to-go container so I could overload not only on carbs but also some vitamin D.

Although the sandwich was average at best, I’m not ready to give up on the same chef behind gems like Volt and Aggio.  The next time I find myself in Friendship Heights,  I will definitely go back and try some of their other sandwiches.  And the next time you’re in Friendship Heights, you should too.
