Day 19: There was a time when skills at Pac Man and a mean backwards skate could get you laid on a Friday night. Red Bull brought those days back last Wednesday for their “Not Your Mama’s Roller Disco”, event 19 of their 30 Days In LA series. Glendale is a neighborhood 5 minutes from downtown LA and is home to the Midnight Rollerway, a vestige of 70’s and 80’s pop culture you cannot find in most of LA’s mostly Golden Age Hollywood locales. It wouldn’t be right unless the music was Disco so Boston based DJ/Producer duo Soul Clap was on hand to rock the party with some help from label mates Midnight Magic (live set), Navid Izadi and Baby Prince. Industry mingled with scenesters decked in afros and glitter onsies all while trying there best to not fall and break their asses. The concerts have been great since November 1st, but the standout events have been the activities and socials at unique venues like Midnight Rollerway. It’s hard to get an industry heavy community out to do anything “normal” beyond pool parties and clubs so Red Bull can come back and throw a roller disco anytime they feel like it.
19 days down, 11 to go!
