One of my favorite records in an already very busy 2016 is Death Index’s self-titled debut record. A two man band formed by indie rock band Merchandise’s lead singer Carson Cox and Italian multi-instrumentalist Marco Rapisarda, it’s a great blast of all black ‘too cool for school’ punk and goth. The songs veer from moody vampire makeout sessions like “JFK” to straight dingy high octave burners like “Little & Pretty”
At under 25 minutes long it serves as a focused piece of music art and a counterpoint to some of the more overblown records out there.. It’s not for everyone but if you find yourself in a mood where only black leather jacketed swagger will do, this is perfect.
