While the planet didn’t implode and aliens didn’t invade after the very gorgeous blood moon yesterday it’s not hard to shake the feelings that in these tumultuous times we are heading towards some kind of tipping point. You can see this reflected in the music; the biggest records of last year and this year dealt with these issues head on. Algiers is a rock band from Atlanta that’s seems to have channeled much of what’s happening in the world into their music (and in their interviews). They aren’t allying themselves with any specific causes or movements but something in the soulful vocals, the tension in the instrumentation, and the lyrics that deal with struggle and oppression just makes their music extremely poignant.
