FOOD: Boulton & Watt’s New Lunch Menu [NYC]

Boulton & Watt, bordering the East Village and Lower East Side on Houston, has been a go-to spot of mine for a while now.  Opening about a year and a half ago, Boulton has a lot going for it, besides the location.

Boulton checks off a lot of the boxes I look for in a bar/restaurant: outdoor seating (so what if the view is of Houston Street?  Makes for great people watching), a spacious inviting main dining room loaded with windows, a large bar stocked with a variety of beer, an excellent and unique cocktail menu (give the Mexican Revolver a try), happy hour–and now, lunch.

During the summer I get out of work at 12pm (I know, it’s amazing) and I remember last year taking a walk around the East Village and having a difficult time finding exactly what I was looking for which was basically somewhere to hang out for a bit, drink, and enjoy a leisurely lunch.  I was surprised to see that many places I wanted to go didn’t open until around 3 or 4pm.  Now we can add Boulton to the list of options.

The food can be a bit heavy, but the salads and appetizers are nice options as well.  The burger is a great go-to, my sister swears by the veggie burger, the fish tacos are great for summer, and don’t get me started on the mac and cheese.  Some things I’m looking forward to trying: The Hangover (two fried eggs, cheddar, avocado, bacon, and chipotle aioli on on toast) and the Heirloom Tomato Sandwich (baby arugula, charred red onion, basil, and roasted garlic mayo on toast) sounds just right for summer.

And perhaps the best part is happy hour stretches from 12-7pm.  $5 draft beers, $5 glasses of wine (the Sauvignon Blanc is probably my fav), and $8 cocktails.
